Mowbray's The Man

It certainly took a while to happen but at last, Tony Mowbray is full time Coventry City boss. That negotiations took longer to put together than the last coalition Government could be a good sign. For Mowbray is no Nick Clegg leaping lemming like to his own eventual demise. He has built a decent reputation in football and isn't prepared to see it tarnished. Mowbray seems to have held out for his own back room staff and control over player recruitment. A good professional stance and something we've lacked.
Despite home form remaining pretty woeful, there was many a good sign as Mowbray led us to safety. His first loan signing, Grant Ward was one of the few successes in borrowed player terms. He also opted for greater continuity in team selection, trusting certain players with his confidence. It's always more difficult to do that when you're struggling at the bottom but there were positive signs, players were responding to his trust.
Mowbray seems to have the same desire as most fans. He doesn't want to settle for mediocrity, surely one of the best ideas in life as well as football. He wants to be at the top end, in a fight to get us out of the meandering nothingness we find ourself in. That means the fiscal backing from the owners that has been sadly lacking in recent years, I don't think he would be here without certain assurances and he will want those promises kept.
The general reaction to his arrival is positive. And that will lead to next season being anticipated with relish. If we can for once, all pull in the same general direction then Mowbray's arrival will have generated positivity from the off. The negativity. Is understandable after the past decade and more. I do it myself. But sometimes you're at The Ricoh and you can feel the quickness certain fans leap onto things that go wrong. It's something only the team can turn round. But hopefully they will now have a clean slate.
I'm well impressed with the younger generation of Sky Blue fans who have had nothing of note to celebrate but support their club with unrelenting loyalty and passion. They deserve and want better. So does Tony Mowbray. Let's hope it's a perfect match.
